Last month a fan messaged us specifically asking for homemade remedies to get rid of mealybugs on Muhly grass (Muhlenbergia capillaris). So, we began a web-surf expedition, and here is what we gather from various sources!
This recipe is made from the liquid of garlic cloves and hot peppers (i.e. jalapeno, cayenne, or habanero). It is a plant-based pest and disease control.
According to the articles, you would have to use a lot of it to hurt a plant, even if the plant is small. It can be used for both ornamentals and food crops.
Blend 2 bulbs of garlic and 2 hot peppers in a food processer one half to two thirds full of water. Strain the liquid and add to a 1-gallon container, add enough water to fill the container. This is the concentrate.
Add one-quarter of a cup of the concentrate to 1 gallon of water. This can be used in a sprayer to reach everywhere on the plants
To make an alternative of Garlic Tea only (exclude the peppers and add another clove of garlic). Add 2 tablespoons of molasses for a more effective sticking agent.
It is best to use a quarter spray bottle, pump-up sprayer, or backpack sprayer. Do not use hose-end sprayers as “they are not a good choice.”
Stay tuned as we will update this post with the results.
