Permaculture Specialist - Florida Native Plants

The company

We are a landscape design, installation, and maintenance (field services) company, with expertise in Florida native plants.  We are looking to hire an experienced gardener to assist in Field Services who could grow into a supervisory position.  The ideal individual will naturally engage with our six core values:  social responsibility, sustainability, environment friendly, harmony, wildlife, and education.

This is a permanent position with an opportunity for advancement.  The role will assist us in creating natural habitats in residential settings in a way that is consistent with our core value values.

The Position

We are looking to hire a personable, trustworthy Permaculture Specialist to take care of this growing side of our business.

The right candidate needs to know:

  1. The design principles used in permaculture and how to implement them
  2. Be able to work with the design team to implement permaculture into existing designs and new designs
  3. Either assist or lead with rainwater management/storage
  4. Create and implement ideas for composting that are HOA and environmentally friendly
  5. Able to educate clients on what permaculture is, why it is of benefit in the garden, and best practices
  6. Able to sell permaculture (new sale, cross-sale, and up-sale)

The right candidate would also benefit from having the following experience:

  • 1. Must be able to work with phone applications and own a smartphone with operating systems compatible with our work applications (Android 5 or later and iPhones running iOS 10.0 or later) and GPS service.
  • 2. Experience in working with Florida native plants and also able to identify Florida undesirable plants (a/k/a weeds)
  • 3. Experienced in garden maintenance that relates to permaculture such as weeding, trimming, pruning & shaping, deadheading, mulching, Diagnostics, and potting up
  • 4. She/he must be tidy!
  • 5. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs., bend and move about freely and work outside in the Florida summer heat
  • 6. Must be available to work 30 to 40 hours per week during the non-growing season and some overtime during the growing season.
  • 7. Must have reliable transportation with a clean driving record – deliveries, pick-ups
  • 8. Must be eligible to work in the USA
  • 9. Must be able to work on his/her feet for long periods
  • 10. Must be a team player, dependable and self-motivated
  • 11. All positions require a background check
  • 12. Able to work efficiently and effectively with little or no supervision is preferred
  • 13. Starting pay depends on experience and credentials

Requirements

  • 1. Reliable transportation
  • 2. Must be eligible to work in the USA
  • 3. Have a valid driver’s license with a clean record
  • 4. Smart phone with GPS for work related apps
  • 5. Must pass a background check
  • 6. Willing to services different coverage areas (transportation reimbursement available)
  • 7. Okay to work in a smoke-free environment
  • 8. Embraced gardening beyond a job
  • 7. Interest in sustainable living and supporting wildlife
  • 8. Is fit to work outdoors in most weather conditions and occasionally around a body of water (i.e. lake, ponds, canals)
  • 9. Able to lift bags of mulch, pots and other gardening tools at ease.
  • 10. Must be able to work on his/her feet for long periods of time as well as being able to repeatedly get up and down from his/her knees to feet
  •  

Experience in the following a Plus:

  • -Creation and installation of new garden beds
  • -Hardscape installation
  • -Good English grammar
  • -Installations (to manage installs a Plus)
  • -Experience in common hardscaping
  • -Supervising
  • -Customer Service
  • -Assist with scheduling and operations
  • -Seedling identification: good vs bad

Work hours and coverage area:

  • -Monday through Friday 8 AM to 4:30/5:00 PM with 30 to 60-minute lunch breaks
  • -Our coverage area consists mostly of the following counties: Lake, Orange, and Sumter counties, and growing into Marion, Polk, and Seminole.
  • -Although our office is in Minneola – Florida, Gardeners only visit the office to pick up supplies or special tools or to attend training and meetings.

  • -Opportunity to engage in a permaculture-only revenue sharing program.

The start pay rate range is between $14 and $18 per hour, plus bonuses and commissions with major holidays paid after six months of employment.  The Permaculture Specialist position has the potential to grow/start as a Junior Partner with revenue sharing payment structure.
